Maybe a stupid question, I dunno...

I've been re-reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, right, and the first time I read it and this time I keep noticing Tonks saying the word "Wotcher." Is this British at all? What does it mean? Thanks!

Yes, it's British - a friendly, slightly cheeky alternative to "hello". I'm sure someone on here knows where it comes from, but it's not me. :)

To the best of my knowledge, it's actually a southern English term, and it derives from "What are you doing?" But yes, it's just a friendly, informal greeting.
Ahh, okay. Thanks muchly! ^^
